I just got email acceptance for something called Grand Central, recommended by Magic Jack just in case an area code in your area is not available. Grand Central issues you a phone number so others can call you in event MJ doesn’t have an area code in your area. When they dial the Grand Central issued number in your area code, it automatically forwards your call to the designated number you provide.

They sent membership without me, as yet, purchasing MJ, but as soon as I get back from my cruise next week, I’ll order it. As I understand it now that I have a viable phone number, I can make and receive phone calls anywhere in the US & Canada.

The question, which still remains, is can I make calls from Mexico with MJ. No one to date has stepped up to the plate with an answer that I’ve yet to read or may have missed.

I've never heard of Majic Jack before, but I can not think of a reason why it would not work anywhere in the world you had a fast enough internet connection.

Pete has it straight. Their site says "From Any Country" outside of the states. They emphacise that it's good for business owners that travel. Only thing required is a computer with a high speed connection (better than dialup) and preferably a headset with mic although the internal speakers & mic usually found on a laptop will work......

I use a regular touch tone cordless phone with mine...

I don’t know if you’ve heard of Grand Central, so I’m including the website for review.

First off, when Grand Central notified me of acceptance, previously I understood it was free when you are granted an invitation upon your request for it. When I initially logged on, it came up with a menu, asking what number I’d like to have all my incoming calls too.

Once you provide a number, then it provides 4 different options for changing the stock answering machine voice on all incoming calls for voice mail. For example Home, Work, Family and Other. You can change the message to encourage your callers to leave name and number to return their call at a more convenient time.

When you call the Grand Central number and enter your “PIN” you retrieve your voice mail calls as needed. This is what I’ve done thus far. As I see it, no one has your direct phone number but you will get all your voice mails from them automatically at the number you provide. I tested it by calling Grand Central number I selected and almost instantly my other phone was called at home and if not answered within specified rings, voice mail kicks in. I’m leaving on my cruise today, so I will play with it when I get back next week and fill you in with greater use.
