CFE RATES to change

Can't Post | Private Reply
Several relatively reliable information sources reported that beginning in 2014 the CFE (electrical Utility) will start billing once per month rather than once ever other month.

It has been further stated that those who use small amounts of electricity will no longer receive a government subsidy. But that if your bills are already over about $2400 pesos every two months will not be effected. (Tariff 1 area only)

The only ones who will be effected will those getting smaller bills like $250 to $1,000 pesos per billing period (The figures are for tariff 1, other tariff rates will be different)

One source suggested that all of the changes will be made at the beginning of next year. Another source gave a URL suggesting that this subsidy will be eased out over a several year period.

Does anyone else have any information on this potential changes.

Oh and the dollar rates I quoted were for those in the upper hills like Guadalajara where we are in the Tariff 1 zone.

Those living close to the coast could be impacted much more.

Pete,
Thanks for the update.

Readers should not that "Tarifa" is not actually a tariff (not a tax or a duty). Tarifa is formally translated as a rate => where CFE describes different electricity rate zones, depending on their location and on that zone's weather/temperatures during the previous year.

CFE assigns it's customers to various geographical/weather/heat zones that are called "Tarifa" on our bills.
e.g. We are in " Tarifa 1C " , as residents of Merida, Yucatan.

People in the hotter " Tarifa 1C " zone are entitled to paying much lower electricity rates than people just 15 miles to the north, at the beach on the Gulf Coast. The beach residents are in the cooler, breezier, " Tarifa 1B " zone, so they have to pay higher rates for their electricity than for our higher temperatures in Merida.
