We are talking Mpeg 2 here. I just picked of a blind search Pansat 2500a. Some folks hope to use these receivers to input codes for Nagravision 1 signals found on for example Echostar 6, 7, & 8 located at 110 and 119 Degrees West thereby getting free programming

What most folks don't know is that DISH will soon be converting to Nagravision 2 an encryption system that I am told has been successfully introduced in Europe. Apparently the hackers can not break into this encryption system. Dish is already simulcasting Nagravision 2 signals and rumor has it that the conversion will occur as early as this fall, leaving all of those owning pirated cards high and dry.

My sources are hobbyists who post on various newsgroups. And we are not always right. If any of you have more up to date or accurate information please add to or correct what I have posted. I am particularly interested in whether it is true that the blackbird will not be able to decode Nagravision 2 signals

I get my programming be I up north at the cottage or here in Ajijic via Star Choice and C band. Oh, I watch the free to air stuff on my mpeg 2 receiver.

Thanks for the input, I think. Most of what you said kinda flew past me. I guess the message is stay away from the freebies if you try to use DISH sateliite TV.

Thanks

I'm sorry. I just read what I wrote. It's darn hard to understand. Let me try again. There is a lot of Mpeg 2 stuff out there (That is a type of digital TV). There are more than 1000 radio and TV programs via satellite on Mpeg 2 and viewable in Mexico. Some of it is scrambled and the DISH Network Mpeg-2 programming is apparently easily breakable, therefore there are a lot of persons selling pirated Dish systems in Mexico and Canada. The blackbird receiver not only allows you to watch all of the free stuff, but apparently also makes it easy to download codes or something that allows you to easily steal the Dish signals. Apparently this fall, Dish is upgrading to a higher level of security that has yet to be broken. So apparently those with pirated Dish systems will be out of luck when Dish upgrades.

That said, there are other reasons why you might want an Mpeg 2 receiver like Blackbird. There is a lot of free stuff out there that everyone is allowed to watch. If anyone has any updated or better info on this subject, please feel free to correct me or to comment thereon.

Hey, Well done.... gotcha, now. Both DSS and DISH providers here in Guanajuato are not very popular in terms of services and costs.
A friend in San Miguel mentioned someone peddling the Blackbird, but it would appear foolish to buy a unit which may become obsolete in a few months. Guess we'll just stick with the commercially available for the time being...

Thanks again
