A question regarding Vonage

Can't Post | Private Reply
I got my Vonage modem today and have set it up. It works great. My question is there any special tricks I need to know when I bring it to Mexico? Can I assume I just hook it up as here and it will work?

Thanks

Don

I'm told that there will be no problem with Vonage here in Mexico. especially if you have a reliable broadband connection. I use VoIP but only for phoning North (IconnectHERE) and there are times with even the fastest connection that I have minor problems. But considering how much cheaper it is than using a call-back service, I don't really mind.

Good luck

The broadband connection should have minimum 90 kbps for uploading and for downloading.

When you have the choice of internet providers, pick the one who keeps port 69 open. Vonage can "see" your ATA 186 through this port and help with troubleshooting, if need be.

That sounds great. I put my home on the market yesterday and am working with Strom to get everything moved. Just a matter of time and a little good luck now!

Vonage has worked very well for me here in Mexico. I had a minor problem when I hooked all my stuff up. I got a dial tone and everything, but I couldn't complete any calls. The problem had a simple fix. I changed time zones when I moved here, and when I logged into my account and changed the time zone online, my phone worked fine. Hope this helps to save you some trouble if you are moving to a new time zone.

By the way, I have been experiencing some major problems with web pages that won't display when I use my Prodigy Infinitum account, but I have had absolutely no problem using my Vonage phone. Thank goodness for small favors. Now, if Prodigy will add some servers or do whatever they need to so that I can actually use the Internet regularly, life will be good.

Norma,

I have Prodigy Infinitum and a Cisco ATA phone adaptor, but haven't been able to make the phone work at all. What hardware are you using?

Teri,

I am using exactly what you are in terms of ISP and Vonage. Are you getting a dialtone?

Hi Norma,

No. I can't configure the ATA at all.

Thanks,

Teri
