4G LTE

How much battery power does it take to run 4G LTE? I have problems running 3G. I can almost watch the battery drain while on 3G. If I switch to 2G, I lose the signal. What's left? Can I strap a DieHard to my cell?

Gee, I don't have the slightest idea. Telcel here along the shores of Lake Chapala (I'm in Ajijic/Chapala) doesn't offer anything faster than 3G. And my iPhone 4 only receives up to 3G. the 3G here is so slow, most of the time that I almost always connect via WiFi. I'm lucky to get much more than 1 meg down with 3G.

Because I almost never use 3G, I didn't even notice any difference in battery life.

As I understand it, there are too many variables to answer your question definitively. Sometimes yes, but.....

Newer phones with newer chipsets are more efficient so LTE 'could' be less of a drag, not more.
Weak cell signals take more power than strong signals all things else being equal no matter LTE or 3G.
When using the phone for talk only, it isn't using the LTE radio usually.
If your older non-LTE phone has an older battery, it will not be as efficient as a newer phone/newer battery with LTE, so battery life could be longer with LTE than 3G in that comparison.
Chips take more power when then are receiving data. Since LTE gets the data to you faster, the LTE radio is not working as long as the 3G battery has to work to get the same amount of data.... so battery life could be enhanced by LTE.

and on and on and on

This is actually not a joke...

Our JVC Video Cam came with a very low capacity battery. I bought an 8,000 mAhr battery ("Power Bank by Red Bridge") for about $25 USD. It is a little bigger than a pack of cigarettes, and connects by a thin cable, with a claim of 500 charging cycles. It works great, so far. Amazon has 5,000 mAh battery packs for $15 USD. http://www.amazon.com/5000mAh-External-Battery-USB-Charger/dp/B004P8E612 ... I make no claims about the Amazon unit.

or were you joking???

(Assuming that you have shut off all programs and functions running in background??)

Maybe. It depends on the weight of the DieHard.

I've deleted apps that run all the time and are used infrequently. Turning off wifi and bluetooth when not needed. Lower the display brightness. Delete cashe, etc, etc.

I don't live in an area covered by 4G LTE. What I was wondering is if 3G sucks up my battery quickly, I can imagine how much 4G will. I have a 1500 mAh battery in my cell and I guess that 4G cell phones must have larger batteries or do users carry around additional batteries, solar chargers, or find cafes where they can plug in the charger for a quickie.
