anyone have any yummy easy recipes for cold drinks?
i have 2 ultra lazy-bone drinks i make: i love guava juice frozen and then blended til slushy. i also have mixed pineapple coconut ice cream with guava juice. Both were yummy and refreshing. I also love horchata and aguas frescas but no recipes that i've invented.

It's easy to turn an agua fresca into a slushie if you want a cold drink. A lot of times I go the lazy way and use bottled juice (mango is one of my favorites). Add a little water, sugar, and lime juice, and throw it in the blender with as much ice as you want. A splash of tequila livens things up, and adding a dash of chile powder makes it like drinking a mango on a stick. I've done this successfully with a number of different fruits, pineapple being the exception. It seems to work better to stick the pineapple juice or agua in the freezer and stir it; in the blender, the shaved ice floats on top of the pineapple juice. Why is beyond me. The only key to making slushies this way is to start out with a fairly concentrated juice, so the end product doesn't taste like water.

Banana licuados are another of my favorites. A couple bananas, a glass of milk, a little sugar, a dash of vanilla extract, and a handful of ice cubes (or ice cream). Blend everything until it starts to look foamy, and you're ready to go. You can do this with any kind of fruit--banana, pineapple, guava, papaya, melon and strawberry are popular. Adding an egg yolk makes it even more nutritious and doesn't noticeably affect the taste.

A Belgian friend in Guadalajara serves aguas frescas at all her events. The fresh tropical fruits wow all her guests, and she offers a splash of rum for the adults.

Thanks to both of you! I've used frozen guayava and mango juice before. :) my blender died so i gotta use juices, ice creams, and other liquids for now. One of my fave things about Mexico is all the yummy fruits and fruit drinks they have. I am dying to try a fresh guanabana some time but have never seen one, so i buy the juice. I live in Oregon.
