rasberries

Does anyone know the source of the rasberries that are sold on the streets in Ajijic? I have bought some on occassion and began to wonder where they are grown, wild? Is it safe to simply wash them in purified water or is some further treatment necessary? For that matter is it necessary to wash fresh fruit and vegetables purchased locally in anything other than clean water?

Margaret - they are grown on the berry farms in the Jocotepec area. Driscoll and, I think, one other US company usually have the buying rights to all the berries. They are grown for export and thus to export quality regarding irrigation and other requirements of the FDA.

Most people wash their fruits and veggies, using Microdyn, which you can buy at any grocery store. Personally, I don't think you can soak raspberries, so don't and have not been any the worse for wear after several years of eating them.
