Now that you have informed me about canned tomatoes..my mind is boggled when I go to the meat -bacon, ham and turkey- counter. Is San Rafael better than Zwan.?? Do I buy Oscar Meyer hot dogs or is Fud equivalent? What are your favorites?

People's tastes in bacon are probably as varied as in anything else. Personally we prefer San Rafael, hate Fud (shrinks down to nothing), and just merely dislike most other brands available locally here in Tuxpan. Unfortunately for us the local stores that used to carry San Rafael bacon no longer do so. Current plan is to stock up when we're in Tampico this weekend and freeze a couple of month's worth.

You just need to try a few packages and see for yourself.

You can get Wright's Hickory Smoked, thick-sliced Bacon in Sam's Club, at least, in Morelia. It's second only to Coursey's of St. Joe, AR or Ozark Mt Smokehouse Bacon.
Well, quite less intense, but very very good.
All generalities are suspect, including this one.

Oh, the things we miss living here in the wild west of Mexico, or is it north? Anyway Wright's is to die for good, my favorite in the states. Kowi is a pork processor here in Sonora and has a large packing plant in Navojoa, we have been told they ship lots of pork to Japan. They have a wonderful tasting bacon but it is sliced so thin one can read a newspaper through it. I say it's because all of those Mexican hot dogs have a slice of bacon wrapped around the dog so Kowi cuts the bacon to suit the hot dog vendors. I just bought Rosarito brand today and it was 69.90 per kilo.

We can get a quite acceptable, lightly smoked, leaner bacon at our local carnicerķas. They will slice it to order; as thin or as thick as you want.

Buen provecho,

I like the fresh cut bacon from Sin Rival in Patzcuaro, sliced thick. Very tasty. Fud brand is awful, IMO.
Hams - the same. All I see in the markets are processed hams that remind me of the ones my mother bought in a can with a key on the side. Too gelatinous for my taste.
Trico has pretty nice deli meats and cheeses. A cut above the supermarket brands.
