dark chili powder?

This seems like such a simple question, but I have not read anything about this: In Mexico can one buy dark chili powder like I bought in the US, or better yet, dark chili powder like I bought in Sante Fe? As much as I love the light-colored Texas-style chili like the kind they have at David's in Ajijic, I like to make my own simple-minded Yankee chili, which is dark in color owing to the dark (I presume roasted) chili powder.

You need to get some ancho chile molido and/or mulato chile molido to get what you're looking for. Visit a molino de chiles or a mercado de chiles in a Mexican town.

Yes, you can buy ground chiles in Mexico. And of several varieties. But what's known as "chile powder" in the US is rarely found here. Usually the prepared chile powder in the US also contains garlic powder, ground oregano, cumin and a little salt.
