Use of Relajo in Tamales

Can't Post |

I was wondering if anyone knows how to use Relajo. I believe that it is a spice mix that is used in Tamales. A search of the archives shows no records with Relajo.

No se "Relajo", posible "recado"?

Thanks Bill,
I double checked the package of spice, it is from the company "Proinca" the mix is Relajo.
El sabor de El Salvador.

The pack has large green leaves pumpkin seeds sesame seeds small green leaves, what looks like fried husk on garlic some red dried peppers, little pyramid shaped red seeds about the size of a buckwheat kernel and a whack of smaller green crushed leaves. Does this help identify it?

TIA Rob

Rob,

Where have you seen "Relajo" referenced? If you have a recipe with this ingredient in ti, I may be able to help you?

In the "Yucatan" spice mixtures are used called
"recados". If this is what it is, I can give you much info on "recados". The most popular being "recado de achiote" which is used to make a classic regional dish called "Cochinita Pibil"

Pork chunks a rubbed liberally with "Achiote" and wrapped in bannana leaves and cooked in under ground ovens called "Pibs".

The main ingredient in "Achiote" are seeds from the annatto tree. The seed are very hard, and are a reddish rusty color, which need to be soaked for a few hours before using in the "recado".

I will try to find additional information on anything speeled "Relajo".

"Buenas Suerte"
