As anyone with the most basic knowledge of Mexican food would know, the corn tortilla is one of its most basic, if not the most basic, components. Toronto is a large and culturally extremely diverse city, with a large number of people from various Latin countries. As a result most supermarkets carry at least a fair variety of ethnic foods, yet its two largest supermarket chains, Loblaw’s and Dominion, refuse to stock corn tortillas.

I have written letters to both chains, only to be told that they do not stock corn tortillas because there is no demand for them. This sounds to me like so much bull. First of all, wheat tortillas can be found almost everywhere, including in their stores. Secondly, Fredericton and Victoria are two Canadian cities that are both smaller and less diverse than Toronto, yet I had no trouble finding corn tortillas in either, as I also had no trouble in several U.S. cities. Has anyone had any experience with this, or can anyone offer any possible explanations for this pigheadedness?

There is one store in the Jane St and Lawrence Ave area that carries a large assortment of mexican foods, it's the Marios No Frills... I have been pleasantly surprised there many times, they even have masa flour.

Okay - so my experience is entirely in the Maritimes. Do you have Atlantic Superstores in Toronto. Even in tiny Summerside, PEI they carry the corn tortillas!
I hope you make some headway with the "Big boys" in Toronto!

You're telling me what I already know. They carry an assorted type of "flat breads" which I see is basically a flavored flour tortilla; but no corn tortillas. I haven't seen masa harina either. I was told by someone in Newmarket that you can find Mexican food products in Bradford (just north of Newmarket). As you may know Bradford has a Mexican population during harvest time. I was amazed to learn that people from Mexico travel to Canada to work during this season. Maybe what needs to be done is flood these two chains with letters requesting more Mexican food products.
