Our Nopales Are in Danger

http://www.mexiconews.com.mx/22618.html is an article about a moth from Argentina that eats the nopal plant and is on Mexico's doorstep. It has already invaded the USA.

The fear is that if the moth gets into Mexico, it will devastate the whole nopal population of the country just as it did in Australia.

A frightening threat.
All generalities are suspect, including this one.

Do I detect a hint of 'so what?' in your reply? Growing nopales is a huge industry--both cottage and otherwise--here in Mexico, and nopales are a staple vegetable in the food supply. I think it would be, if nothing else, a minor disaster.

No, I was serious, Esperanza, but somewhat overwhelmed by the prospect of the destruction of the nopal. Let's just say that I was nearly without words. (For once).

What is the region outside of Mexico city that is known for the growing of the nopales?
Thanks
