Hola ale,
I don't know about other countries but in the U.S.
the polvorones are sometimes called mexican wedding cakes and are served at mexican weddings. Idon't know when or where this started but it would be interesting to know. I have been to many mexican weddings and they always had the traditional tiered wedding cake just like in the U.S. and never served polvorones. The info I posted previously I found on the web after doing som research on mexican wedding cakes and traditions.
Ciao, Gran

Mexican wedding cakes also called polvorones originated in Spain. Try the link below it gives a brief description of mexican wedding traditions.
