Looking for a Mexican Cookbook Recommendation

I really enjoy the stews found in the small, family owned restaurants in Morelia and other areas of Michoacon - that cater to the mid afternoon local lunch crowd. These restaurants serve a choice of one or two meat stews, beans and rice, and thats usually the full menu. Delicious!

I have looked in ten Mexican cookbooks in both Spanish and English, and cant find basic recipes for meat in a sauce, gravy, or stew. Chili colorado and pollo con tomatillos recipes can be found, but I am looking for some others, something like those excellent, but basic pork or beef stews in Michoacan.

Any cookbook recomendations - Spanish or English?

The Diana Kennedy books and others too often have recipes that are fancy, not common - not what the locals eat everyday. The Bayless books are good, but no such recipes here. Any recommendations?

Take a look here: http://rollybrook.com/kitchen.htm It's sort of an on-line illustrated cook book that has a few of the things you are looking for.

There's not a fixed recipe for most of the guisados served at cocinas economicas.

For Michoacan recipes, see http://polaris.ccu.umich.mx/cultura/cocina/
