Right now, locals around Lake Chapala are harvesting pods off trees. At the tianguis last week, I saw these curly little pods, sort of a green and reddish color. Someone nearby asked the vegetable vendor what they were. I'm pretty sure I heard her say, "Guachumiles", and that when eaten they help clean out your system. Can't remember if she used the word amoebas or parasites. I repeated the word - Guachumile - and she seemed satisfied with my pronunciation. No idea if I'm spelling correctly or if I've got the name right. Is that what they're called? And how are you supposed to cook them, eat them? I didn't have time to ask her at the time.
