Egg shortage

Here in Xalapa there is a shortage if not an absence of chicken eggs in the supermarkets. I can't find a reason why. So has anyone in other parts a Mexico have a similar problem?

Not a problem in Mexico City markets. Eggs available at the tianguis, at abarrotes, at supermarkets, and through our egg man.

I will say that yesterday we were at City Market (a Whole Foods-type market, wildly upscale Mega) and noticed boxes of 18 eggs for 42 pesos. Yikes! We pay 70 pesos for a flat of 30 from the egg man who brings them to our door.

My guess would be that the spotty regional egg shortages are repercussions of the mass culling of chickens in February after an outbreak of bird flu. News reports here and here.

Esperanza, that is the same price delivered as at the store.
42÷18= 2.33 each
70÷30=2.33 each.
Not sure what your point was, that all are expensive?
Excuse my confusion please.

I picked up 18 yesterday at Superama for 40 pesos. There was a sign above the 20 or so cartons asking that patrons take only one carton.
