Hello prmjcm I have used the international keyboard now for over ten years, ever since Windows 3. It works very well if set up right. Perhaps you forgot to click on the OK's on exiting the set up. So let's check. Here is what to do on Windows XP installed on a US machine. For machines sold in Europe or England, I don't know if you would choose English US or English UK. You would have to try. The procedure will be the same on all Windows operating systems but Microsoft has the undesireable practice of changing names and places of things in the various systems. Go to start, then Control Panel. Click on Regional and Lanugages options. On the Regional option tab of the tabs that open make sure that English (United States) is chosen. If not then click on the languages tab and choose English (United States) Then click on customize. Then click on Details. If you have set up the International Keyboard properly and that keyboard is shown as your choice, I cannot help you. Your system should work. If the Keyboard is shown as - US - or English (United States)-US - click the down arrow and choose English (United States)-United States-International. Then click OK. Click OK again, Click OK again. These three OK's are important. Close out the Control panel. Go to Word or Word Pad and try it out. Hold down the RIGHT--not the left--ALT button and type aeiou and you will get áéíóú. To get capitals hold down the right alt and the shift and type AEIOU and you will get ÁÉÍÓÚ. There are other refinements that you will find as you go along such as ü or Ü which you get by typing the y instead of the U. The ¿¡ and the ñ and ñ the same way. One thing you will have to remember is that if you type the " you will have to space after it to get the correct symbol. Same with ' . You will find that this system is simple and easy to use, especially for a speed typist. It works with Word, Word Pad, and all the E mail programs which I have tried. Courier, Pegasus, IE Explorer 7.0, Opera, Firefox, gmail.com and yahoo.com e mail. Whether it will work with Open Office I don't know. If you have a VISTA operating system, PM me and I will work with you on that as I have set up the International keyboard on my machine but can't remember the procedure. Oh, I think this only works with the standard English qwert keyboard. I don't think it is available on a Spanish or other keyboard layout. Enjoy. jerezano.
