"las noticias" singular or plural ??

Hi...

In English, "the news" is a singular:

What is on the News tonight.
The news about Iraq is not so good.
TV news was partially responsible.

How about "las noticias"? I'd want to say "las noticias de hoy son horribles" with a plural "son", but is that the correct usage? Or is this not a expression one would ever hear?

Plural.

I did a search of "Las Noticias son" and came up with many hits, including this one.

When I did a search for "Las Noticias es", or "Las Noticias esta", I found sentences in which "Noticias" was not the subject, while the real subject was singular.

I was pretty sure that Noticias was plural, but using Google I could verify it.

Google as a grammatical tool. ;-)
