connotation of "callejón" ??

Hi...

If you live in/on a "callejón" rather than a "calle", do people feel differently about you?

Would there be negative connotations to such an address for a native speaker?

To put it another way, if "Ella vive en el callejón cerca de la avenida", would he date her? Would he think differently of her than if she lived elsewhere?

Callejón translates literally as "alley." Often, however, literal translations don't tell the whole story. The word may also be applied to narrow streets or culs-de-sac between major streets. While we commonly think of an alley as providing access to the rear of a property, a callejón can also serve as the only property access. I'm not aware of any negative connotation assigned to the word.

Hay de callejones a callejones. Muchas personas quisieran poder vivir en callejones famosos, como el Callejón del Beso en Guanajuato, o en alguno de los estrechos e históricos callejones de Madrid, Florencia o Verona.

Gracias a Uds. por su ayuda.

Tomo una clase de Espnañol por películas, y la película de esta semana es "El callejón de los milagros" dirigida por Jorge Fons.

No lo mencioné porque quería la palabra "pura" - sin effectos de sentimientos sobre la película.

No es posible, creo, que el titulo es por casualidad. Pero, por qué tenemos "los milagros"? ¿Donde son? Es un misterio. Por supuesto, este es un callejón mas "sin salida" que "de los milagros" (y no hay referencia a "milagros" en el titulo del libro original). Esperé que la clave fue en la significado de "callejón".

Como supongo que ya sabes, la película "El Callejón de los Milagros" fué basada en un libro escrito por Naguib Mahfuz. El nació en Gamaliyyah, una zona del barrio antiguo de El Cairo, en 1911. Se graduó en filosofía por la universidad de esa ciudad. Ejerció como funcionario en diversos organismos de la administración pública. Ha publicado más de treinta obras, entre novelas y relatos. Considerado el "padre" de la prosa árabe contemporánea, en 1972 recibió el prestigioso Premio Nacional de las Letras Egipcias y se le otorgó el Collar de la República, el más alto honor de su nación. En 1988 se le concedió el Premio Nobel de Literatura.

En el título original (en Arabe) el lugar de la acción es el callejón de Midaq. Como no se nada de Arabe, no te puedo decir si esta bien traducida esa palabra.

Xalapa tiene varios callejones con nombres romanticos como "El callejón de Jesús te ampare", "El callejón del diamante", etc. Estos callejones, aunque no tan numerosos como los de Guanajuato, dan un sabor colonial y de provincia a esta bella ciudad.

Tambien se puede usar de esta manera negativa; "Este Fulano se encuentra en un callejón sin salida". O sea, no tiene remedio a su problema ó situación.

Les invito con todo el corazon, como "hijo putativo de Xalapa"(así me dicen mis compañeros Rotarios), a visitar esta ciudad con sus callejones y espero verlos pronto por aquí.

I never met anyone who had read Naguib Mahfuz before, isn't he wonderful?

Here in Chapala we have muchas callejones, and I live just off one of them. I think they're swell, but then, no one has asked me out since I've been here, so maybe Tomas has the right idea. ;)

Hi! Teri,

There are a few callejones here in Zapopan, too. In fact, I live on one. It has no name of its own, taking that of the address at which it leaves the cross street "Calle Talavera 2700." Odd, no?

Never heard of that! I'm not sure all the Callejons around here have names, either. They sure aren't on the map. It's a crazy, vertical town, and from what I've heard, Z. is much worse. Fun, isn't it?

tha only diference betwen theme is than a callejon its a street where there are no turns lesf or right you can only go straight .Normaly this kind of streets are buil in places far away from town adn they could be dangerous maybe thats why people may use in certain way.
