beast of burden

Can't Post | Private Reply
While I was helping my wife unload her Mexican artesania for sale, a potential client asked me the price of something. I meant to say something referring to myself as a beast of burden, that I just load, carry and unload stuff so I said " You soy El Burro, no mas." My wife turned all red and poked me in the ribs with her elbow. Turns out that I , inadverdently, was bragging about my male anatomy by saying that. Oops.

Alex, my friends around here often call each other Burro meaning stupid. I and others say "Soy un burro" as an excuse for having done/said something stupid. How does that differ from what you said?

I guess there are several interpretations, other than the literal one, depending on context?

I've always heard it as "beast of burden". Maybe your wife thought you said "Toro". Could be a subconcious thing :-)

More than on context, the answer here depends on which part of the anatomy of the burro you fix your attention upon when qualifying it.

Yea, like the time I ordered "cabrones a la Diabla". Or referred to watermelon as "agua melon". Egads.

Ay ay ay, ustedes me dan tanta risa.

Since we have taken this thread down from Burro to Sandia..it reminds me of a saying I learned: "Cuando el burro come sandia". I guess they don't eat watermelon.
