does anybody know how this plant is called in Spanish. Nobody seems to know "aloe vera."

Thank you. So that is the name for the famous plant, una planta de savila (have no accents) where they make juices and heal wounds etc. CAn you just throw the whole leaf in the blender and mix it with other goodies?

Yes, you can - or boil it first then zap it in the licuadora with other flavors.

It, and nopales, which I blend up into smoothies, are said to be very good for diabetes and low-resistance problems.

Only, "planta de savila" made me think of a factory.

"Mata" (noun) is also used to mean a horticultural plant.

And, hoja de savila would be one leaf of the plant.

A little lore- they say (I guess "they" would be all the old wives) that if you cannot grow savila in your garden or home, you cant grow ANYTHING!
