a nickname

Can't Post |
Hi, my boyfriend calls me churro. I thought it was kind of cute but I notice that other men look like they can't believe I allow him to call me that. Is it because it is derogatory or some other reason? The reason I'm asking is that I don't know much Spanish and can't tell what they are saying about it. Thanks.

I can't understand why you would need a nickname when you have a cute name like ihatelapels--you'll probably admire the fact that I once owned a Nehru jacket.

Churro means like a jet, or something forced our under pressure. As such it sometimes get applied to diarrhea (sp?). It might be instructive for you to watch churros being made--fried pastries in which dough is forced from a tube and falls into boiling oil. I think the image might cause you to dump the nickname, maybe even the boyfriend.

I was hoping it was in reference to the pastry itself, but I guess its just an embarrassing thing after all. I don't exactly have a bad temper to be likened to a splattering explosive force but I am sizzling a bit right now. I asked him once if he was trying to insult me (because of other's reactions) but he never answered. Now I guess I know, thanks.

Thanks for admiring my nickname, I just do not like clothes with lapels. Silly things flap in the wind and are just generally annoying. Nehru jackets do look nice. :o)

Thanks Brad! I found chorro in the dictionary and it does mean "to spurt". The way my boyfriend pronounces it is like the pastry or the sheep. Maybe the men look funny because they think he is calling me a woolly critter! Or maybe because of the nature of these pastries, they think he is calling me cheap and sweet!! hee hee :o) Either way I will keep my humor about me.

Maybe you can explain to them that the nickname harkens back to his roots growing up in {fill in the blank here - I've heard Montana, Texas, Canada, and Australia all used and there's a number of other locations that are good options} "where men were men and sheep were scared". He may decide that's baaaaaaaad and give you another nickname.....

I hope so! It's just that I've had reason to doubt him recently and was wondering about it. Kind of made me uncomfortable because of the reactions it got.

Churro is a fritter, chorro is a jet, gush, squirt, swash.

He probably calls you, ihatelapels, "churro" because you're sweet. ;)

take care, churro! :)
