What happened to the Spanish Speaker helpers?

Can't Post | Private Reply
Hello,

What happened to all the Spanish Speakers who used to help out on the Learning Spanish Forum? Our good friend Sr. Quevedo is dying of boredom over there.

On Nov 21 I asked for help on a translation of La Valentina and got not even one durn answer. We used to have lots of helpers. What happened to you all?

If you touch base there try translating the Texan "Ya aaaawl come back naooow, ya hair" into Spanish.

Adios. Jerezano.

I asked for a translation awhile back and the moderator was going through some health problems and apologized for being missing in action temporarily. Maybe now that you've alerted the gang, some other volunteers will help out there?

In the translation I asked about, by the way, I didn't put the tilde over anos, so the whole article run through Babelfish came out calling people a bunch of anuses. Worked for me!

I once sent a mass emailing ( well multiple) from work in GDL, wishing many customers and suppliers (local) a happy new anus!

That's a good one! Did it affect your business in a positive manner? Mexicans have very good senses of humor.

Well since I work for a large corporation, there was no adverse reactions. I had been in a hurry and committed a typographical (error de dedo) error. Woprd in Spanish has an excellent spell checker, but of course can't check context.
Of course my co-workers accused me of doing it on purpose. I get accused of having a "Mexican" sense of humor. As you so rightly say, the Mexicans have a great sense of humor, especially as you become more familiar with them, and the people of Jalisco have the best sense of humor in Mexico, with the Chilangos, from DF coming in a close second.

There used to be a series of books and recordings called Picardía mejicana. An easy read, it is hilarious. I think Chente F. was in a movie made about this. More than once, Chente has played a Chilango, but he'd do anything for money!

he he he! Well, well I don't know about them having such a great sense of humor when referred to as "Chilangos". They don't appear to think it is all that complimentary. My husband has family in Mexico's "Big Apple" and his very cute cousin informed me in no uncertain terms that she was NOT a "Chilanga", but rather a "Defeñia" (haven't a clue how to spell that but it is derived from DF) That would be the complimentary and preferable term says she. Suegra told me I committed a slight feux pas. (It wasn't the first and won't be the last, I am sure.)
