It is almost like a Torreta is like a gun turret, but I don't think so. So what does it mean?

You're right, it is a gun turret. Since turrets look kind of like little towers, you just take torre, add the diminutive ending -eta (you wouldn't want to use -ita or -illa because you're not talking about something in a positive light, and you're not downplaying its importance), and there you have it.
