Today's "real life" Spanish lesson

I'm pathetically proud of myself for having completed an oral marketing survey in Spanish! A guy came to my door, ID and all, asking me to participate. I almost told him I couldn't understand or speak well enough, but then I decided to try. It was pretty long, and he had to rephrase a couple of questions, but otherwise I got through pretty well. It turned out to be for the local supermarket where I buy most of my groceries, and they're trying to determine the market for a new store on my end of town. That would be very cool, so in the end I was glad I'd participated.

Now if I could only remember everything that I understood at the time and forgot immediately afterwards. :-{

I love my "pathetically proud" moments. Congrats on your latest!
I'm glad to hear someone else reacts like I do to those small successes.

Thanks! I'm also grateful to know I'm not alone. Far too often I feel like that cartoon dog whose owner is bragging that she understands every word, when over her head is a little thought balloon that says "blah blah blah Ginger blah blah blah Ginger".

The little things are the most gratifying. To take something from what I've been doing recently, it's strangely exciting to feel like I've gotten just the right phrase to round out a sentence. Or finding out that the vanilla porter I grabbed off the world beer shelf at the local liquor store is really good.
