Can't think of any at this moment, but thanks for the info! You listed a couple I didnt know myself :)
: People just learning Spanish or new to Mexico are going to meet a lot of people known by a different version of their given name (nombre de pila); Pancho, Pepe, Lola etc. These are along the likes of Dick for Richard, Jack for John or Chuck for Charles. In Spanish these are called “hipocorísticos” and are a different type of nickname than the “apodos”.
: Hipocorísticos can be just a shortened version of the name i.e. Toño for Antonio, Tere for Teresa, while others are unrecognizably different from the given name. Some of the more common hipocorísticos that are noticeably different.
: Here are a few:
: Alfonso …. Poncho : Alberto ….. Beto : Augustin(a)…Tino(a)
: Concepción … Concha : Dolores …….. Lola : Eduardo …… Lalo : Enrique ……. Quique
: Francisco(a) …..Pancho(a) : Guadalupe…….Lupe : Guillermo …….Memo : Ignacio……….. Nacho
: Jose……………Pepe, Chepe or Quico : Jose María……..Chema : Luis ………….Güicho
: Refugio ……..Cuco : Salvador …….Chava
: There are plenty more. Anyone want to add to the above list?
