Still unsure of se lo digo vs le digo a ud

Can't Post |
After some 4o yrs with the Spanish language considering my ability with the language good I Still need a refresher on the use of se lo digo vs le digo. Both would mean I say it to you/him/her. Would it work to say le digo a ud. Se lo doy= le doy a ud =I give it to him/her/you Lastly se lo presto he loaned it to you/him/her = le presto. He loaned it to me would be me lo presto or se me lo presto? All this has confused me all this time. I read Jim in Cancun's explanation of direct vs indirect objects but in the examples I've outlined I still get confused me falta ayuda un poco por favor.

"Se lo" -- when it occurs

Can't Post |
Sometimes understanding why a construction happens will help you remember and use it. (I hope!) Anyway .... the "se lo" occurs when the result would normally be "le lo (la)" -- which sounds awkward to the Spanish ear, so "se" is substituted for "le":
I give Mary the book. Le doy el libro a Maria.
I give her the book. Le doy el libro.
I give it to her. Se lo doy. (Instead of "Le lo doy.")
If you were talking about "La pluma": Se la doy.
Does that help??

: After some 4o yrs with the Spanish language considering my ability with the language good I Still need a refresher on the use of se lo digo vs le digo.
