Hello normamc288, You don't tell us where you are and you also sound confused. As if you don't really know where to go to learn Spanish and want someone to tell you. Not the right attitude. You will get many different opinions and you will need to filter those. 1) There are many good Spanish schools here in Mexico 2) Prices vary all over the lot 3) Climates vary all over the lot 4) Teaching methods vary all over the lot 5) Quality of teaching varies all over the lot You don't say where you are now. If you are here in México and in a fairly large city with a University, Fergueson's advice to get a private tutor is probably the best advice of all. 1)Tutor prices vary all over the lot 2) Tutor quality varies all over the lot 3) Tutor reliability and compliance varies all over the lot Now with that said, in my own experience the quality of the teaching at the Institute of Modern Spanish in Mérida is the best which I have encountered in all of the various schools I have attented in Mexico. Some 5 or so. Its prices are reasonable as is a home stay and the teaching is no-nonsense and by qualified University and Middle School professionals. But the climate is HOT. The cost of transportation to Mérida and return may be more than you would like to pay. So here is what you need to do: What type of climate do I want? What type of lodging do I want? home stay or nearby hotel? What type of learning do I want? Strictly Spanish, Some Spanish but some Tourist activity as well, Mostly Tourist activity with some Spanish, really all Tourist but in Spanish? But the most important question of all is Can I get my instruction right here where I am? If you can get nearby teaching that should probably be the most economical. If you could go to a nearby school or University and visit any of their English Classes you would no doubt find several students of English who would be happy to tutor you in Spanish in exchange for English practice, or possibly small (to us) hourly peso charges. Those tutors also can act as guides to the city attractions and lasting friendships can be made (Don't fall in love with your tutor!) Quality of those tutors would need to be vetted by you, yourself. But an unsatisfactory arrangement can just as easily be cancelled and replaced. Schools on the other hand are contracts which in many cases cannot be cancelled. Of course if you are in the United States instead of Mexico, then a Spanish school somewhere whether in Mexico or some other Spanish speaking country is the way to go because Tutor prices in the US can be in excess of $50 usd an hour. San Miguel de Allende has some excellent schools, Morelia has some, Guadalajara has some, Cuernavaca has some, Mexico City has some, Veracruz has some, Puebla has some and I could go on and on. Google search for Spanish Language Schools + country desired. If you must go to a Spanish School, you will get the most benefit from one-on-one instruction which is a bit more expensive but worth every extra dollar. And a home stay while there is in my opinion the only way to go. It is more economical than a hotel and at the same time it is continuing Spanish classes with some culture and customs thrown in. Lasting friendships can also be built in a home stay. In other words decide what you want and then act. Don't let us try to tell you where to go. The only thing we can tell you is our own experiences. ¡Que tengas buena fortuna! jerezano
