The local radio station (where the dj speaks about 1,000 syllables per minute) is a spanish language resource for me .... BUT ...

I got a couple of phrases for your perusal:

¡órale! is an expresion I hear often on the spanish radio station along with 'a todos machina mucisa' ... Total Music Machine? The lonely planet translation says ¡órale! could be either a good expression or a negative. When the announcer uses it, it is ordinarily during a telephone call-in discussion. How can it be determined which way the expresion should be understood?

A couple of weeks back we had a thread about 'quiero agua' where I asked how to insert the word 'some' and understood that some is implied. So I go to dinner at El Tenampa and hear the waiter say, '...algunas cervezas bien heladas ...'. which I took to mean 'some freezing cold beers'. I did not get the context of the usage but ordinarily is that acceptable or did he mis-use the word algunas?

I believe "some" in "I want some water" is just an extra thing we English -speaking people use. I don't think you wanted more than one glass of water, did you? However, when the speaker said, he wanted some beers, I assume he wanted more than one. Am I correct?

1) Música a toda máquina = música a toda mad.. = música muy buena. A toda máquina substitutes the more hard sounding expression (never to be used in front of the ladies), a toda mad...

2) Algunas cervezas bien heladas, or perhaps, Unas cervezas bien heladas.

For example,

"Oigan, ¿quedan todavía algunas cervezas bien heladas?"

"Mesero, traiga por favor unas cervezas bien heladas, porque éstas están calientes."

"órale" can be used to mean "alright! awesome! cool!..etc. or "hey!"

ex:

¡órale! ¿es tuyo? = awesome! is that your's? :o

or

¡órale! ¡me pegaste! = hey, you hit me!! >:(

I have come to grips with the indirect translations regarding, some, a few, a little etc (seems English is a bit more specific in this area that is Spanish) ... but let's just suppose that I did want more than one glass or maybe several glasses for those with me at the table. In English I could say, 'I want some glasses of water, please'. I believe the watperson would understand the request. Would it be correct to say in Spanish, 'quiero algunas vasos de agua, por favor' ?? From what I've been told at this forum ... the answer is no.

What do you think?

I did not understand the reference to not to be used in the presence of ladies ... 'a toda mad...'

I always thought of "Orale" as "Right On".

The use of "bien" means "well" or "nicely". Can even be used as a common response to "Como estas?"..."Bien bien".
You could think of it as equivalent to "pretty", and in "pretty good"

"La quiero con/sin/hielo/purificada/mineral/al tiempo"

The short & direct version, IMO.
