As a brief foray off the path of "language only" into an exploration of "language and culture":

I was watching "Descontrol" at the gym the other day and found it amusing how abruptly the announcers called the names of the people eliminated from each round and almost gleefully hustled them off the stage.

It was nothing at all like American Idol or Survivor, where the losers are announced after a long, suspenseful pause and sent away to the tune of some mournful music, maybe with an interview afterward.

It got me to wondering: is it just a cultural preference to treat losers this way, or what? Does this happen in Spanish-speaking countries other than Mexico?
