Paludo. Apparently it means hard and dry, like food you don't want to eat any more because it's all...well, like a stick. Sticks are hard and dry, so I guess it makes sense in a way. It was Memorial Day and there wasn't much to do, so I was cleaning the garage and the boy was sitting on the couch playing video games. I pop in the house, and he comes up to me with puppy dog eyes and does his honey-i'm-starving-will-you-fix-me-lunch thing. Me being me, I snap at him with my of-course-not-i'm-busy-cleaning-can't-you-see-leave-me-alone thing. So he grabs the half-gallon container of beans I had in the fridge and shoves the whole darn thing in the microwave. Upon which I start shouting again that you can only heat the beans so many times or they get hard and inedible and God knows what else. I can practically see the light go on in his head as he says, "Sí, sí, se hacen paludos." I guess I know how to get my point across next time.
