Hello & beginner advice

Hi everyone,
I came across this forum the other day and it looks great. I wanted to introduce myself and say hello.
I'm half Mexican and ashamed to say I don't know how to speak and understand Spanish. I'm finally doing something about it. I recently started taking a beginner Conversational Spanish class at a local college here in Metro Detroit. It's one of those Adult Leisure classes, not a full blown college accredited course. I've only been 3 times and it's going good, but would like some advice on how to really expand my knowledge.
Besides this forum, what are some other forums, audio CDs, books, software, etc…that you can recommend? I really want to hear the pronunciations too. Is going through the college Spanish courses, Spanish 101, 102, etc…best? I've always shyed away from taking a college Spanish course because I know plenty of people that have taken Spanish in highschool and also in college and still can't speak Spanish or understand it that well. That's why I took this Conversational Spanish course instead.
I purchased Streetwise Spanish Dictionary/Thesaurus and it looks pretty good to learn Slang and Idioms. I also came across the file DOSSIERMEXICANISMOS.pdf that someone posted, but it's all in Spanish so I can't benefit from it yet. I'm obviously interested in Mexican Spanish.
I'm 32 years old, a Motion Graphics Designer/VFX Artist, married and have two boys that are 2 yrs old and 3 months old. I don't have a whole lot of time, but I'm determined to learn as much as I can so I can pass it on to my sons.
Thanks and hope to learn a lot from everyone here,
Al ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Alexander V.
