I thought a vivero today used a form of the verb to refer to grafting

It's possible you mis-heard the verb injertar – pronounced een-hair-TAHR – which could sound pretty similar to heredar – pronounced air-eh-DAHR – and the gerund, grafting, would be injertando - pronounced een-hair-TAHN-doh. Sometimes those Spanish vowels get by us, who are native speakers of English, and if that happened to you, they sound a awful lot alike, not nearly as clearly different as my simple western U.S. English transliteration makes it seem.

You're still doing it incorrectly. The Spanish word for grafting is injertando not injertado. You're missing that n. You ARE correct that injertado means grafted, though, as it is the participle.
