A few new words

Can't Post |
Recognizing that it is all about phrases ... could I get some help with these words, they are from Quevedo's post of today. I was able to copy the text into a translator but could not get all the words to transalate into English. Anyone able to put these into the context of Quevedo's message?

1. veintitantos 2. verdirrojos (a contraction for verde y rojos?) 3. navideño (little manger scene?)

4. sonsonete 5. nubarrones 6. gruñón

thanks

Joe

How about this:

1. veintitantos = twenty something

2. verdirrojos (a contraction for verde y rojos?) = greenish red, or probably green and red instead of saying verde y rojo

3. navideño (little manger scene?) = time of nativity

4. sonsonete = singsong voice or noise arising from repeated gentle beats imitating some musical sound.

5. nubarrones = a large cloud or a heavy shower of rain

6. gruñón = grumpy

Hey thanks Mereja and Oro ...

It's funny, I know veinte as twenty but I did not see the contraction (veinte - e + i = tantos) until I got to verdirojos (verde - e + i + rojos). So now I gotta look for those pesky contraction type words. I was close on navideño but had no idea on the last three. I like the sound and meaning of nubarrones and the word gruñon does sound sorta 'curmudgeon-ish'.

Muchas gracias ... Feliz Navidad

If you read the story of the Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs in spanish, one of the seven dwarfs' names is Grumpy, Grunon.

Mereja ...

The old 'Blancanieves y los 7 enanitos' ... I recognize blanca and nieve ( learned nieve at a restaurant when I asked for ice cream ... found out ice cream and snow are the same word).

Now I also know enanito is dwarf ... great answer!!

ice cream can be "helado" or "nieve". I've also heard "enmantecado"...although, I think it is mostly used in puerto rico (I think)....aka: "puelto lico" hehe :)

"navideño/a" means "related to christmas" like "arbol navideño"="christmas tree", "luces navideñas"="christmas lights"

Hope that helps...and I hope everyone had a very merry CHRISTmas ;)
