Si usted quería decir, ¨It is difficult to insist that the clients make what they pay¨, entonces es correcta la oración. You see, you may insist that something or other be done; however, you have no assurance that it will be done, hence the subjunctive. "What they pay" is merely a statement of fact and thus the subjunctive would not be necessary, ¿entiende? If by ¨make¨ you mean ¨earn¨, then you should use the verb ganar. Espero que esto le ayude un poco.

Suerte.

Saludos cordiales,

Hi...

Thanks for the time several of you've spent in reply... sorry not to be able to be more clear. Your suggestions are interesting glimpses into the language - makes me glad I didn't just post a note about StrayKingFisher in English (and why did he have to YELL so much.... :-)

What I tried (hoped? :-) to say was "I have a hard time insisting that someone pay for the very thing they themselves must create/make". More closely: for me, it's difficult to insist that customers pay for that which they themselves make".

I assume that "es difícil insistir que" is ok, that "pay" should be in the subjunctive and "make" should be in the indicative. I clearly need "por lo que", or some other way of saying "that for which" (I had only "lo que"). The dictionary I looked in made me think that "pagar" can contain the "for" as "buscar" does.

I'm not clear about the tense of the verbs. In English, both "pay" and "create" can be present tense (ie, one pays for that which one is even then in the process of makine). True in Spanish as well?

Saludos.

There would be more traffic if the rest of the board opened up. I'm sure David has thought of that. Oh well!
