Nací en una tierra
que tiene la entraña
preñada de sol;
que huele a tabaco
y el aire emborracha
porque sabe a ron.
El mar acaricia
toda su figura:
la viste con prendas
de coral y sal.
Con la suave brisa
las palmas erguidas
se peinan, coquetas,
su penacho real.

Sr. Quevedo -- Es muy bonito -- y mas o menos lo entendí, aunque tenía que busquar "preñada" en mi diccionario español--

entrañas preñadas 'bulging innards' is about the best of the ugly English translations, but the feeling in Spanish is so much different

I can only guess at what the real sense of it to a native Spanish speaker would be...it's like the poetry of Garcia Lorca, where a phrase has so much more meaning and sensibility than the literal translation. Boy, I sure wish I was fluent enough to GET all those subtleties! Meanwhile I guess I'll just keep flailing away with my trusty Spanish dictionary.

¿Como se dice "trusty" en español?, as in "my trusty dictionary" --

In fact, how would you correctly translate the following question, which is what I really mean to say: ( I need help with the tense here)--

"How would one say 'trusty' in Spanish?"

Bueno, mis estimados amigos, voy a hacer el intento de traducir(interpretar) el poema...

I was born in a land

that has the sun impregnated

in it's innards;

that smells of tobacco

and the wind drunk with the taste of rum.

The sea caresses it's figure

dressing it with corral and sand jewlery.

The tall palm trees comb themselves with the sea breeze,

flirting, with a royal tuft of leaves.

¡Francamente me gusta muchisimo más en español! Por cierto, se parece al Veracruz del afamado compositor mexicano Augustin Lara.

¡Portense mal y cuidense bien!

Cómo se diría 'trusty' en español? How would you say 'trusty' in Spanish?

'Trusty' puede ser 'fiel'.
