how to make cheap window screens....

after pricing around for some window screens and getting prices starting at 1,200 pesos.... i searched on the internet and found how in australia and some european places have found a simple way.

materials: screen (home depot)
3m velcro strips (some come with sticky glue on the back)
sewing machine.

take the measurement of the outside metal frame of the window....... the velcro tape is going to hold up the screen in place... so the velcro is attached to the metal window frame on the outside of the home.

next cut your square screen leaving 2 inches of extra material all around (you will cut that once the velcro is sewn to the screen....... you will press the velcro strips on all 4 sides then take to local sewing place to have them sew 2 rows of thread on each side of velcro....

now you have your cheap window screens......

i spent maybe 150 pesos for the 3m velcro stips and about 105 pesos for screen..

it works great.

Very simple. I just think the screens would work better and survive theft if placed inside the window. All my windows also swing out.

Several months ago, I was thinking about how to reduce the summer heat transfer through my numerous windows. Living here in San Felipe, Baja, it gets pretty hot here in the Sonoran desert.
I looked into window film, but did not want the "solar light filter" in the winter as it would then interfere with needed light and solar heating of the rooms. Since my windows are sliders, I then thought of the velcro on the corners of the windows. I ended up stapling the loop side of velcro to the corner of the sun screen and it works great. It reduces the heat from getting to the glass and metal window frame and the resulting heat transfer.
I am a happy camper!
