Donating Cement Mixer Edit | Delete | Quote | Reply | Private Reply
Hi all, I hope someone can help us.

We are a US based charity building schools and medical clinics in impovrished Mexican neighborhoods. Over the last 2 years we've built watertanks and a small clinic with a portable concrete mixer - slow at best.

We have purchased a large (9 cubic yard / 7 cubic meter) concrete truck and need to get it into Mexico permanently. It is parked in El Paso while we research the laws, rules and regulations.

We will not be selling this truck or working for hire, just working for free on our projects.

Any ideas, links or people to talk to?

Also, any ideas re: best overland route to Puerto Vallarta?

You may find some angle to work on this, but I would start by going to the Mexican consulate and explaining the situation and finding out how much duty they want to charge you. Then go to your generous and altruistic contributors and tell them they need to come up with this amount as part of the cost of doing good with that cement truck.

Have you considered just arriving at the border with that truck and its title? Tell the aduaneros that you are taking it to Mexico on vacation for six months, pay your $20 fee and go about your charity work and six months later drive it out. At worst they will send you back to El Paso.

We got the truck safely to PV and it's hauled it's first two loads.

Thanks for all the emails and info, (most of) you people are the best!

We finally paid a broker to do all the paperwork and paid the fee to get the trucks across. The drivers were the cheapest part of the entire transaction. Frankly, if I was to do it over again I'd buy the units in Mexico...
