Shortcut

building on the oaxacan coast

Can't Post |
ok i'm going to describe what i want to do, and anyone out there with suggestions or information please contact me.
I want to build a house in the Puerto Escondido area.
Based on buildings i have seen and lived in there, and in other parts of Oaxaca state, this is what I want to build:
3 small bedrooms, a kitchen, and a split bath, surrounding an open (partially sheltered) courtyard in the center of the house. Kitchen and two bedrooms to one side, split bath and one bedroom on other side, another shower and a utility sink outside, connected to the same plumbing that leads into the kitchen...floor drains in bathrooms, kitchen, courtyard, and under utility sink/ shower. So when you enter the house you enter the courtyard and the kitchen is the first room to your left. The kitchen would be the largest room. I would like to have a fence or wall surrounding the property with various gates to contain dogs when necessary. I imagine a large iron gate that opens out and space to pull a car into the front yard. Water tank on roof. Electricity throughout the house, and glass brick skylights and windows in some rooms.
I want to use the type of colored cement that Carmen's cafecito used for their floors (in the patisserie) - I have seen bathroom counters made of the same stuff in Oaxaca City. It is cool, smooth, and a little bit shiny.
It looks like cement with paint in it, but i don't know if that is what it is. I am also interested in wall tiles, but more as an extra project that can be added later. I also want to have cement bed bases and couches.
The part of town i am most familiar with in Puerto Escondido is Lomas del Puerto. My friends have built 4 houses there.
If someone could direct me to Spanish language materials regarding house construction it would be much appreciated. I speak Spanish but my construction vocabulary is limited! I also don't understand how floor drains work, and they might not be practical on the coast.
Thanks for your help.
