What Kind of Wood is This?

Can't Post | Private Reply
Can anyone tell me what kind of wood "Banak" is? I am sure my spelling is probably way off, but that is only a phonetic spelling. It almost look like a form of Mahogany to me. unfinished it has a tight grain and is a little light red in color. Has anyone ever heard of this wood? If so is there an English translation?

Thanks,
Robt65

I've used it from time to time. Easy to machine, glues, stains and finishes easy. Termites love the stuff so it needs to be treated. Must be kept dry because it rots quickly.

Hello Bennie,

Thank you also Bennie, pardon but you hit all the nails on the head. Good for interior but certainly not for exterior use and loved by termites as well as other boring insects. Sure looks like mahogany, but is very inferior to mahogany . . . . . . . . so says many places on Google.

Thanks again,
Robt65
