TridiPanel building on Oaxacan coast?

Can't Post | Private Reply
In planning for construction of a home on the Oaxacan coast, I am wondering if anyone knows of builders in this area who use/sell this product or similar panel style construction?

Except for some kind of interlocking which doen't show very well in their ads or videos .... it looks a lot like Panel-MG which is common. Panel-MG uses standard post and beam for the house and works as a filler.

Wrong again, sparks. You can build Panel MG structures without the posts and beams just like with TriDiPanels and Panel W. Their product also uses basically the same method and connectors. There just aren't any builders in your area that know how to use it properly.

I have built several structues on the Jalisco coast using Panel W. FerrePacifico carries most of the materials needed. Had to have them order some things from Guadalajara.

FANOSA is one manufacturer of foam construction products (www.fanosa.com). If you don't get the answer you're looking for here, try reversing the process & asking FANOSA (or your preferred manufacturer) if they can tell you what suppliers or builders they sell to in your immediate area.

I built with foam, but I opted to go with foam block (1 meter long x 8" thick) since I felt it made more sense structurally because of the interlocking interior concrete channels & it increased the insulation factor over the 2" thick panels.

Yep ... only reporting what I've seen. Also saw it used with metal stud walls but it may not have been MG.

Is panel length limited to 8 feet and what kinds of roofs will it support

Metal studs? Must have been a know-it-all gringo. Whoever it was, they are an idiot.

It will support many types of roofs. But pouring a solid reinforced concrete roof on top of panel walls would make no sense. Panel W makes roof panels. They work wonderfully. The only problem is designing for larger spans but it can be done. Try checking out the technical data on any of the websites. The stuff is strong.

I typically use a losa aligerada built with casetones for larger roofs.

I wasn't a big fan of this style of construction until I saw that in the right hands, curves and design elements can be used. A big unexpected problem they were having in Florida was that male woodpeckers loved the 'top dog' tapping sound they could make on stucco over foam, and it caused a lot of expensive damage. In a way, Tri-d and its variants is another way of doing EIFS (Exterior Insulation Finishing System) - which now has a very bad name amongst contractors in Canada and the U.S. This issues are mostly concerned with trapped water vapor.
