The cost of Re-bar

Can't Post | Private Reply
I haven't checked recently but I've been hearing that a 7 meter piece of 1/2" rebar is going for 150 pesos???? Is anyone paying that much out there in the rest of the Republic?

Thanks,
Esteban

Don't know but I'll check in town tomorrow. Haven't used much rebar in a while. Just as another point of reference for regional building costs, regular cement is going for 88-95 pesos depending on which store I buy it at. What's it going for over there?

Somewhere at Profeco's website http://www.profeco.gob.mx is a chart showing the prices for various construction materials throughout the Republic.

Half inch rebar is going for 135 pesos in Tuxpan. 3/8" is going for 74 pesos. Price based on checking one place only, I didn't comparison shop. Just fyi.

Ok, for us dumbies, how long is each piece of rebar that sells for 74 and 135 pesos, 7 meters?

On my construction site I would see these bent over pieces of rebar, that were about 10 feet long that would have been twice that when un-bent which very well could have been a little longer and therefore 7 meters. Is this the normal length that they come in, 7 meters?

The rebar used on my projects is 6 meters. I suspect that is the usual length.

Today I paid 85 pesos/bag for cement in Ajijic. Mortar was 65 pesos/bag. Bricks were 98 pesos/100.

And a red snapper for lunch was 90 pesos. Just think, I coulda eaten a whole bag of cement and a soda for that!

From what I understand, the price of steel has doubled recently, so not only rebar is expensive. We're thankful to have about half our roof finished, but unless the exchange increasingly favors us, we will really pay through the teeth for the remaining part of the roof and any other work our balconero does for us.
