The IMSS is forever

Several times on this forum and on my website I have admonished folks who have dealings with the IMSS to save their paperwork forever. Today Enrique and I needed our records on the last building project that closed more than a year ago.

We got a letter from the IMSS state office in Durango telling us that some rates had gone up and a bunch of other undecipherable stuff. We went to the local office to ask what it all means. The clerk allowed as how he did not know and that we should call the state office in Durango. We did, and told them we closed out our job more than a year ago, and what does this letter mean. It turns out that they knew we had closed out our building project, but we had failed to file a thing called a ‘yellow card’ which, apparently, tells IMSS that the job is closed and that we are out of business. They seemed to think we were still in the construction business and would need to know about these rate changes. Anyway, back to the local office to officially go out of business.

Never throw away anything from the IMSS. Your grandkids may need it.
