Swimming pool question.

I live in Vista del Lago and am thinking of draining my pool to retile some spots and wash it (not a full acid wash). I am trying to figure if I have a hydrostatic relief plug but don't see one.

Has anyone in this area had any experience with draining a pool? I also know there is ground water from the rains and more than at other times of the year.

Any input apprecviated.

I had one in my pool in Seattle and figured that everyone in Ajijic would have one too when I was facing the same problem you are.

I have never heard of a hydrostatic relief plug being used lakeside. That doesn't mean that they don't use them, it's just that there was not one installed in either my old or new swimming pool in Ajijic, and when i asked the same question you did several days ago, most folks had no idea what I was talking about, and I found no one who had one.

I think you meant to say "hydrostatic relief VALVE"

I didn't have one in my pool in Marin, north of SF, but the pool was constructed in the 1970's. When I had it re-plumbed and plastered, they didn't suggest I put one in. My guess is they are only commonly used in areas with a lot of ground water. I was warned never to drain it in the winter during the rains, which sounds like good advice in Ajijic as well. It is certainly dry enough there in the winter for it not to be a problem.
