A research and design institute for sustainable practices is planned for a large parcel of land near Atotonilco. It is being developed by CATIS Mexico, which is an alliance of Ingenieros Sin Fronteras Mexico, Instituto Tierra y Cal, and iCATIS (International Centers for Appropriate Technology & Indigenous Sustainability). San Miguel is poised to become a major center for sustainability in Mexico and the addition of this institute is an important step in attracting even more talent (and visitors!) to SMA. Construction of the earth block buildings will begin In June, in conjunction with an excellent series of classes and workshops offered by CATIS Mexico. Please do not miss this opportunity to learn more about sustainable building and agriculture while supporting this fantastic project. Anyone living south of the EEUU Frontera will be offered discounted tuition for these courses. I am personally interested in attending the Landscape Water Harvesting class, so everyone please sign up now so there are enough students! To learn more about the CATIS Mexico project, I encourage you to visit their website: http://www.icatis.org/CATIS-MEXICO.html In the upper right corner there is a link to a large, but interesting, pdf document about plans for the site near Atotonilco. Information about the June classes is available on the Mapa Verde San Miguel calendar. http://mapaverdesanmiguel.org/calendar/events/index.php?l=english&d=2011-06-01 Thanks, Rick Barba Roja http://www.mapaverdesanmiguel.org/
