STOP mosquitos, screen off house vents and septic vents

This is so simple, buy some metal screening, and wire, cut it into pieces and give to your neighbors and their neighbors or screen it off yourself. Put the screen generously over the vent hole and with the wire tie the screen in place.

All septic and house vents should have screens on them
. this is the perfect mosquito breeding location as well as many other bugs.

I have documented and completed stopped all mosquitoes in some areas by doing this. Granted I live in a desert area that only gets rain 2-5 times a year, but we should not have mosquitoes and we do. People have noted to me that they have seen a cloud of mosquitoes flying out of septic vents before at dusk. Even in areas that get significant rain this could put a dent in them too.

for more documentation you can go to www.la-ventana.info click on the mosquito link.

If anyone is in the know of a person or organization that can fund developing a one way trap like we have for bees/flies, this is an ideal place for a trap. Obviously this is a continuous lure for mosquitoes to lay eggs. So if they can not escape after laying them they can not pass diseases to the next blood donor. I have a conceptual sketch for that on the same webpage.

I assume duct-taping screen over my vent tubes will be good. Could have posted a simple article rather than a link to a dating site that we have to look around to find your info/diagram

my experience with duct tape is it does not handle sun well.

that link should not have sent you elsewhere, to a dating site. that is strange, it is terminated to a company that provides the hosting forum (probably like this one), and they should not be doing that to you. Also if you sign into that forum, you will never see an ad. But that should not have been an ad if it was that dominant.

No-one has ever noted that to me before and it has not happened to me.. If someone else has the same experience please private reply to me.

If no-one else does end up re-directed, you may have a slightly infected computer. under my computer section of that site i have a bunch of links to freeware sites that I have been using for many years for stopping ad-ware and such. the important thing to using freeware is that the site must be used by others for a long period and in general I only download the ones rated by the host like CNET and users with a lot of downloads. I am a bit of a tech geek.

Dean - the La Ventana site comes up but at the bottom is a slew of photos of buxom young ladies - not what one expects - some of the guys might like that of course.

Scott, instead of duct tape, use clamps, that's what Vern did on all of ours.

Thanks Elke. Hadn't considered it a problem so far but now with a house a definite consideration. I was surprised by the number of mosquitoes in my registro (Mexican version of a 'clean out') and the vent pipes could be the route they use

Hello BajaDean,

This was a great reminder. I am getting ready to leave Texas for Queretaro as the eye surgery seems to be coming to a point where the drastic raise in altitude will not be a factor. I have only two eye appointments left one tomorrow and the other Friday by the VA. If all goes well, I should be able to leave here on Saturday. . . . . . . . You really reminded me of a problem that we have and It got me into gear to go to Home Depot and buy two 100 foot rolls of screen material. Thanks for the reminder. I had Jimena go with her father and measure every window in the existing home and then figures in the addition of three additional rooms with the window sized. I wound up buying two rolls which should leave me enough for screening in part of one patio.
Flash!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Damn mechanical things . . . . . . . . The new (to me) 2008 Tahoe with only twenty eight thousand miles on it had a meltdown this afternoon!!!!! Apparently two broken valve springs. This is one of those 4 to 8 cylinder vehicles. The “meltdown” evidently is called a valve collapse. Obviously I was not tickled about this new situation. Got to the dealer at about 1 PM and even the owner came out to assure me it would go immediately into the shop (and surprise, surprise .. . it did indeed. Computers holed up and then the bad news. The owner of Clark Kemp Honda / Chevrolet assured me all would be repaired and all of the upper end of the engine inspected to ensure no other valve springs may be weak. All new push rods and guides along with checking the valves themselves.
Fifteen minutes after getting the bad news, the dealership had a rent a car for me to use during the repairs to the Tahoe. While I am pissed about the situation, I am eternally grateful it happened here and not on a lonely stretch of Mexican highway. The only test drive I get will be the trip home to Queretaro. Well I better get back to packing. It’s up early n the morning for the eye doctor. Then back to packing including two hundred foot rolls pf screen material!
