Please let me know what you find out. I want to find out what it costs to build a palapa in Mexico's west Coast.

If you are anywhere from Mazatlan south, all you have to do is ask around.

When I drive through Nayarit between Tepic and Escuinapa, I often see many thached houses and big DINA open trucks loaded with palm fronds. This is what they use. It's a by-product of the coconut groves.

It isn't manufactured. It is gathered or trimmed from the coco palms. To thach a roof, you first split the frond lengthwise with a machete so that it will lie flat. Thatching a roof is hard work and best to hire a local crew. As the man said, "Ask around."
