Remodeling in Baja Sur

Hello all, I'm in the process of remodeling an older home in La Paz, BCS, where I plan to retire next spring. Inspired by Rolly and others, I've started a little website for the project, still in the early stages:

Excellent website and story.

One question: How do you manage the project and get these pictures if you are still living in Egypt?

Hi Rolly ... I was there in person during the buying process, remodeling bids, signing contracts, etc. "Before" pics and plans are my doing. My architect/engineer (the REAL project manager) sends progress pics, and we exchange Q&A, etc., via email, combo of Spanish and English as needed. So far, so good.

I've appreciated your thoughtful contributions on the 2 BB's for a while now Kate. It's great to learn a little about you and to see your project. I love La Paz and especially the beaches to the south and we'd like to spend more time finding our way around when we retire in a couple years. Sounds like your fond of it too.

But boy, does it get H-O-T so I agree that your dream of a pool should be a "must-have" and your back garden, will be an oasis. Plants love the heat there- especially plumeria and other fragrant tropicals. I can smell the night blooming jasmine(cestrum nocturnum) and Tuberose now! It looks like you're in store for a lot of remodel work before you get to that point, but it will happen and then you'll have time for the fun stuff.

Buena suerte.

Thank you for the kind words, Punta! I hope we'll meet in Baja, as I've enjoyed following your experiences, too. You're right, planting is a bit down the road, but I do love my trees.

La Paz weather is generally less extreme than in Cairo (add sea breeze and subtract smog). If anyone wonders "why a pool 500 meters from the sea?" ... the bay isn't considered clean enough for swimming, though there are lovely beaches a short drive away.
