Pool Decking

Can't Post | Private Reply
We are building a house with a pool in Ajijic. The standard (in the contract) for the decking is, what we call, flagstone in the U.S. We´ve been told to pay the extra for cantera. Any advice would be most welcome.

Apparently there is a product called ¨cool deck¨ that some have used here. Is it more or less expensive than cantera and would you recommend it?

Another unrelated question. We´ve been told that a water softerner in the Ajijic area is a very good idea. Thoughts?

I can’t give any recommendation as to what to use for your pool decking, except that the last thing I would recommend would be flagstone. The first house we lived in here had a pool. The decking was concrete with a broomed finish. It was not slippery at all. When anyone spent a lot of time around the pool, the bottom of their feet would turn red, almost bleeding, from the roughness of the finish. This was especially true for the kids, who will run every time your back is turned.

I think you want something that is not slippery, but not so smooth that there is any danger of people falling. On the other hand, you don’t want material that is so rough that people are skinning the bottom of their feet either.

Maybe someone has a good suggestion, I am not familiar with Cantera, etc.
