Pictures of Mexican fireplaces

Can't Post | Private Reply
We are building a house in Mexico and want to find pictures of different style fireplaces. We've tried looking at real estate sites and the houses they have for sale. I've googled "Mexican Fireplaces" and have had little success. We've seen different types on our visits but we need pictures to show to the architect.

Does anyone know of a site or multiple sites where we could get ideas for our fireplaces.

Thanks

If all you need are pictures, I'd try Google again - only this time just type in "Fireplaces"............Dutch

Not everything's online. Ask your architect if he'll share with you his ideas. There's a great series of books, now out of print, by Verna Cook Shipway and Warren Shipway, which are worth exploring, even though they seem sort of dated now.

A "Mexican fireplace" is sort elusive. Do you want a stone fireplace, a brick one, a tile-covered one, an adobe, or a carved marble one? Something rustic, classic, modern, post-modern, modern rustic, or something straight from the pages of Sunset magazine?

Hello,

Try a google search for chimineas. They are even selling them in the United Kingdom.

There are many books on Mexican houses. I don't know where you are but look on Amazon for Mexican house books and see all that is available. We go on the house tours in SMA and take our cameras. Many of the stone carving places have models already made.

I´m building a house in Mexico too (in San Miguel de Allende), and bought about 10 Mexican design books in the States before I left, which have been invaluable. Upon arriving, though, I found that the local bookshop has many of them - don´t know if you´re near here, but if so, check out El Tecolote on Calle Jesus, it´s well worth it.

The best "design ideas" book I found is called "Traditional Mexican Style Interiors" by Donna McMenamin and Richard Loper. I´m putting in a bunch of fireplaces, and there are lots and lots of pics of fireplaces in the book which were extremely helpful. I ordered the book at Borders in the US, but it should be available via Amazon (or Powells, which I{ve been told ships for free to Mexico).

I just took a look at the book, there's a whole section on Mexican fireplaces from traditional, contemporary, exterior, interior, cornered, tile, stucco, talavera, raised hearth ... you get the idea.
